It looks like the looooong wait for a Medicaid AMP Rule is going to continue for a bit longer. According to industry insiders, the Department of Health and Human Services has not yet cleared the AMP Rule for final review by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Since OMB reviews can take 90 days or more, the Rule is not likely to come out until late summer or fall.
Just to recaptitulate, when the proposed rule came out in February 2012, the CMS indicated that the final AMP Rule would be available in 2013. Then the OMB signaled that the rule would be available in December of 2013. More recently, the OMB indicated May 2014 as the ETA. Now we are hearing of another delay, causing everyone to wonder if, like the villagers in Aesop’s Fable about the boy who cried wolf, whether people will be prepared when the AMP Rule is finally published.
